Reader’s Question:

I always pay my bills on time and I always get the cheapest car insurance from my insurer in Atlanta Georgia. Recently, my motor vehicle record and insurance got changed and I wasn’t given the cheapest insurance. I am wondering if it is because I bought a new red vehicle and they said that it increases auto insurance?

Bill

Atlanta GA

An insurance company looks at your motor vehicle record to check how much of a risk you might be as a motorist. If you have several number of points or prior suspension of license it would most likely affect your car insurance costs negatively.

To know if the reason for the increase is that your motor vehicle record was affected negatively you may contact your car insurance company in Atlanta Georgia to get this information. I do not think that the color of your car, which is red has any bearing on the car insurance cost since vehicle color is not considered in determining car insurance rates usually.

There are many factors that are considered when determining an individual’s car insurance premium and it can differ for each insurance carrier. To know for sure what affected your car insurance rates call your insurance company and ask for information.

I am Dwayne and I am 59 years old now and will become a senior citizen in a few months. When I approach 60, will I still be able to get insurance for my automobile here in Atlanta, Georgia?

Dwayne

Atlanta, GA

Dwayne, I know what’s going on your mind right now. Probably, you’re thinking you’re not insurable anymore the moment you hit 60. Or if you can get insurance at all, you’re probably thinking you’re car insurance rate will eat your pension away. Well, Dwayne, let me tell you something to lift your spirits up. Senior citizens are among the least risk rated drivers. As you know, something that comes with age is driving experience. Compared to a teenager driver, I will trust an old yoke anytime, any day. Another good thing about seniors is they would be more observant of road traffic rules. Always remember, Dwayne, as long as you can drive, you are insurable.

To save money, try to get quotes from all insurance companies servicing Atlanta, Georgia. Or for faster results, the internet has almost all information about auto insurance. You can also get quotes through the internet. A lot of insurance companies give discounts if you drive less than 10,000 miles in a year, so take note of that. If you have more than one car, insuring them with one auto insurance company will also get you more discounts. No one will stop you from driving if you are healthy, so it is important to stay healthy. I mean, why punish yourself by trying to drive in your retirement if you have arthritis or diabetes, or any conditions that may affect driving. So, Dwayne, you have nothing to worry and are still insurable as long as you are healthy. Enjoy driving.

Reader’s Question:

My son has let his auto insurance lapse. He have been canceled for non-payment over the past years. He can’t seem to find an insurance company now to insure his auto in Atlanta GA. How can he get car insurance?

Noel

Atlanta, GA

Due to your son having car insurance issues previously (non-payment, lapse in coverage, etc) he is considered a high risk motorist. For motorists such as your son that are unable to find an insurance provider in the voluntary market that will insure them, most states have high risk insurance company that will cover these types of motorists.

Typically high risk drivers in Atlanta  have to go the Georgia Automobile Insurance Plan (GAAIP). It was created in 1949 to give auto insurance coverage to eligible high risk motorist who seek coverage and are unable to get such coverage through the voluntary market.

Eligible Georgia Automobile Insurance Plan risks are shared among companies writing car insurance in the state of Georgia. To get more information who these insurance companies are in Georgia and how your son can get car insurance in Georgia through the GAAIP so that he can insure and operate his vehicle contact the Georgia Insurance Commissioner.
